4 DIY Auto Body Fixes
Although in most cases, it is recommended that you take your vehicle to a trusted auto body repair service, there are a few issues revolving around your vehicle's body that you can most likely fix yourself. Throughout the course of this brief article, you will learn about a few of these fixes.
Rust
In order to remove rust, begin by sanding the area down around the offending area; avoid full contact with the rusted area itself, for now. Ensure that you get any stray flakes of spray paint away from the area after you are finished sanding it down. At this point, sand down the offending area and make sure it is as flush as you can possibly make it. Rust treatment should then be applied to the rusted area. It must sit overnight in order to effectively work. The next morning, you can apply primer to the area, and then paint over it.
Faded Headlight Covers
Although many people assume that faded headlights are an issue with their bulbs, this is often times not the case. The problem could be with the headlight cover; luckily, this is a quick fix. Before committing yourself to fixing the cover, make sure you have both a headlight lens restoration kit, as well as a microfiber cloth. They're both available at most hardware stores. Clean the headlight cover with water and a cloth, then make sure that the cover is sufficiently dry. Apply the lens cleaner to the microfiber cloth and give the cover a good, deep scrubbing. After it is applied, dry it off with another cloth. This should ensure that your headlight cover will recover from fading.
Light Scratches
Light scratches are usually a quick fix. Make sure that you clean the area with water and a clean cloth, to begin. After making sure that the area is dry, apply an acetone cleaner to the scratched area. If you do not have an acetone cleaner, an item that does contain acetone, such as nail polish remover, will work just as well. If the acetone-based cleaner did not work, purchase a rubbing compound and work it into the offending area. Make sure that you buff this out after it is applied.
These are just a few quick fixes that can do for your vehicle. However, not all aesthetic issues wind up being this easy of a fix. If you don't feel comfortable fixing these issues, or if the problem is much larger, don't hesitate to make an appointment with a trusted auto body repair service.
